Paul Eluard THE GREAT TEACHER ARRESTED DREAMS
Leonardo da Vince notes in his Treatise on Painting the great analysis on the lights and shadows, copied verbatim:
"OF HOW TO GET THAT SHADOW FIGURES APPLY TO LIGHT AND THE BODY.
When traces a figure and want to check if the shadow corresponds to the light, so that no more red or more yellow than the nature of the color you intend to overshadow and will do: it projects the shadow of your finger on the illuminated part, and if the accidental shadow represented by you is similar to the natural shadow cast by the finger of your work, well be. Then, approaching or moving away from the finger, will cast shadows darker or lighter than always have to compare with yours "
Just read this short paragraph to understand why his work has a unique mastery ....
